Navajo
Nation - The Navajo Nation is a federally recognized American Indian tribe that
is comprised of 27,000 square miles of rural land located within Arizona, Utah,
and New Mexico. According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau statistics, there were
298,197 individuals claiming Navajo ethnicity and according to the Navajo Nation
there were 255,543 enrolled members of the Navajo tribe and 180,000 people
residing on Navajo land. The Navajo Nation has a three branch government that
includes the Executive, Judicial, and Legislative. An eighty-eight (88) elected
Council Delegates form the legislative body that represents one-hundred-ten
(110) local government subdivisions. The Executive Branch consists of an elected
President and Vice-President and about ten executive divisions. DSAF and ONNSFA
are within the Division of Dine Education that is in the Executive Branch of the
Navajo Nation.
