Navajo Nation Teacher Education Program (NNTEP)
Updated 02/14/2003
NNTEP PURPOSE:
NNTEP is a unique funding program that provides services to Navajo students
pursuing their educational degree, on or near the Navajo Nation. NNTEP makes it
possible to earn a BA/MA degree on a part-time basis.
NNTEP signifies the need for preservation of the Dine' Language and culture by
producing qualified Navajo teachers and administrators to be the role models and
change agents within schools serving Navajo children. NNTEP also advocates for
Teacher quality on behalf of the Navajo Teachers at the Tribal, State, and
National levels.
NNTEP GOALS:
Our priority is to give support to Navajo Teachers who strive to become
bilingual, bicultural, and certified educators. In addition, we support
Educational administrators to complete their Master degrees.
The funding is non-need based and is available to those students who meet
eligibility and academic requirements. Students responsibility is necessary to
update and complete requirements per semester funding.
REQUIREMENTS OF NNTEP:
** IMPORTANT NOTICE **
Any student who applies must be in good academic standing with ONNSFA and
Federal Funding programs.
Undergraduate students are required to take a Navajo Language or Navajo Culture
emphasis concurrently with each college/university's teacher education courses.
The NNTEP policies do not fund students who are pursuing a second Master's
degree.
Undergraduate students who have a desire to enter the education field may pursue
a post-bachelors program with their first degree.
